It was really interesting to spend time in a location, within our own culture, in which so many different traditions, ethnic backgrounds and religious groups are represented. It was fascinating to walk through Asian supermarkets, eat Indian sweets, smell the smells of the various restaurants and meet people from different traditions. The week included visits to several places of worship, interviews with representatives from different faith backgrounds, a tour of the British museum's exhibition on biblical history and lectures from several cultural experts.
We have been challenged as to how much we have still to learn about traditions that are present within our own culture. We have been challenged about the extent to which we understand our own tradition and identity, and we have been challenged as to how effectively we represent our own tradition when challenged, or questioned, by others.
Looking forward to sleeping in a real bed tonight and taking some time to reflect on our visit as we work on assignments tomorrow!!
