At 04:03, Jonny and I were woken by our visitor who has come to stay. My initial fear was that I had slept in. This would be highly unusual... but I have felt tired lately.
Etta, however, offered an alternative explanation for interrupting our sleep. She calmly said, "Sorry, guys, but I think there's a problem with the toilet". At this point, a dozy Jonny made a move to get out of bed. As his feet touched the ground, I heard a strange splashing noise. This noise was followed by the sounds of Jonny's response (which was unusually restrained - probably due to the early/late time!).
The house was flooded! Our toilet was "fixed" yesterday, but the fix seems to have been temporary. We have spent the remainder of the night shovelling buckets of water into basins, emptying basins, and repeating the process. The place is now, two hours later, at the point where it just all needs mopped and allowed to dry...
...but what a night!
Now, no available toilet to use in the house. We'll be calling in a few favours with John and Ann Turner (who live around the corner) today!
