Our house is situated right beside an indoor volleyball court. When I say indoor, I mean, it has a roof. However, it has just net for walls and the net touches the balcony behind our bedroom. People play volleyball there from morning until late at night. It has taken us a long time to get used to the noise when we are trying to get to sleep.
The last two nights, however, have seen a further addition to our volleyball court-induced sleeplessness. The owners of the court have got a dog! The dog, it seems, suffers from insomnia - and likes all around to know about it! No exaggeration - for the last two nights the dog has barked relentlessly from around 1am until around 4am. At about 2am last night, after an hour of tossing and turning, Jonny went out to the balcony. I was aware this was happening, but too sleepy to question him on what his plan was. I'm certain that if there had been a gun available, it would have been used (sorry dog lovers!). When he returned he announced his intention to go and speak to the owners in the morning. I wonder if he know the word for 'bark' in Khmer!
